SOUTH JORDAN, Utah — South Jordan Culvers held a fundraiser Saturday from open to close, with 100 percent of net sales proceeds going to the Hansen family, who recently lost their 15-year-old son when a gas leak caused their house to explode.

“We’ve been blown away by the community involvement and outreach,” said Jake Larsen, owner and operator of Culver’s South Jordan.

Utahns show up for each other.

“This is like the beautiful, ‘Aww, I see a wholesome story,’ and even though it was through a tragedy, seeing that and people coming together like that, it really lets me see how good people can be.” said Draper resident Mariah Collins.

Larsen said after learning about the accident in his town, he had to help.

“It’s been an amazing turnout so far, just for the rest of the day, at all of our opening times,” Larsen said.

He explained that no less than 100% of the proceeds was what he felt was necessary.

“It didn’t feel right to do anything less than that, you know? It’s a terrible tragedy; we just wanted to make sure that people would come together and understand that we all come together as a community,” Larsen said. .

In early November, the Hansen family’s home exploded due to a gas leak and they lost their 15-year-old son, Logan Hansen.

“As soon as I found out, I thought we’re going to do something. I couldn’t imagine. I have two boys of my own. It just broke my heart,” Larsen said.

Culvers patrons told FOX 13 News it was a devastating accident for the entire community, and they hope people can show their support in any way they can.

“I said all my prayers and I was so sad to hear what happened. I can’t imagine … my house and everything just blowing up and losing a family member,” Collins said.

After the sudden accident, people gathered around the family.

“It’s pretty cool,” Bingham High School junior Bracken Wootten said. “I hope it’s better for the family so they can get as much money as they need for their house.”

In a time of devastation, people are overwhelmed by the amount of love shown. The owner of Culvers shared how amazing his staff was throughout the busy day.

“Thank you to the community as well for coming together and just being able to show your support,” Larsen said.
