Senior citizens targeted in Baltimore carjacking spree, three hospitalized

Senior citizens in northwest Baltimore are at risk after a series of recent carjackings that have sent at least three people to the hospital.

For the third time in a week, an elderly suspect has been the victim of a violent carjacking.

Most recently on Friday, a 62-year-old woman was confronted at gunpoint as two suspects took her car just before 11:30 p.m.

On Thursday, a 79-year-old disabled man was assaulted and robbed. Two 15-year-olds were later arrested, but not before crashing into the victim’s car.

On Monday, an 83-year-old woman was assaulted and carjacked, and less than a mile away, a 16-year-old was arrested for that incident. Police say the teenager was responsible for several other robberies in the past.

In September, in the same neighborhood, an elderly woman was hit by her own car while being carjacked by minors.

At this week’s public safety meeting, Commissioner Richard Woreley revealed that carjackings by minors have increased by 233% compared to last year.

But when it comes to the North West District in the last 7 days, it has increased by 200%.
