Edo: Philip Shaibu lists achievements as deputy governor amid ‘fight’ with Obaseki

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has listed his achievements ahead of the handover of administration to Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Shaibu said that under the present administration, Edo State has been ranked first as a sports destination, education has been transformed, healthcare revitalized and infrastructural developments have been recorded.

Posting on X, Shaibu applauded the people of the state for their support, encouragement and partnership during his tenure.

According to Shaibu: “Welcome to November, a month of contentment and transition.

“As I reflect on my remarkable eight years in office, I am filled with gratitude for the trust that Edo people have reposed in us. It was an honor to be your deputy governor.

“As we prepare to hand over the reins, I am proud of our achievements, from making Edo State the number 1 sports destination, to transforming education, revitalizing healthcare, to infrastructural development. The mantra of our administration, “Making Edo Great Again” (MEGA), was more than just a slogan – it was our guiding principle.

“To my fellow Edo citizens, I thank you for your support, encouragement and partnership. Your resilience and determination inspire me every day.

“As we transition, I urge you to remain committed to our shared vision of a prosperous, inclusive and vibrant Edo State. Let us continue to work together to build a brighter future for ourselves, our children and the generations to come.

“Here’s to a smooth transition and a brighter November.”

Shaibu endured a difficult time in office as deputy following a conflict with Obaseki.

The fallout led to the impeachment of Shaibu by the state House of Assembly, but a Federal High Court in Abuja overturned and reinstated him in office.

Amidst the confrontation, the embattled deputy governor defected to the All Progressives Congress.

During the recently held governorship election, APC’s Okpebholo defeated the Peoples Democratic Party candidate Asue Ighodalo on Monday.

Ighodalo was Obaseki’s anointed candidate but lost the election.
