The Bristol charity will house 30 homeless people in flats

Charity, Ara Recovery 4 All and Bristol City Council will see 30 people placed in the flats.

A recovery charity is to launch a new housing scheme for people with a long history of homelessness.

The Ara Recovery 4 All project, which helps vulnerable clients in Bristol with problems such as gambling and homelessness, will include apartments in the city for up to 30 clients in their own premises.

Customers accepted into the scheme, which is in partnership with Bristol City Council, will also receive support throughout.

Ara Housing First manager Andy Cook said the scheme would give people “a chance to make a fresh start and recover from the trauma of being homeless”.

“Dynamic System Change”

“Our aim will be to support people to maintain their tenancy and access the services that are right for them when and how they want,” he added.

The approach has already been implemented in Liverpool, Manchester and the West Midlands and, as well as reducing levels of rough sleeping, has reduced anti-social behaviour, hospital admissions and cost savings for homelessness and other community services.

Robbie Thornhill, Ara director of recovery and resettlement, said: “Housing First represents dynamic system change for the way Bristol responds to people experiencing multiple disadvantage.

“The sustainable offer we make is to support people the way they want for as long as they want,” he added.
