Hawaii woman Hannah Kobayashi was reported missing after flying into LAX on her way to New York

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A 30-year-old Maui woman went missing after flying to Los Angeles a week ago, and her family is asking the public for help in finding her.

Hannah Kobayashi was scheduled to continue to New York after only a brief stopover at Los Angeles International Airport.

But apparently he missed that connecting flight. Her family says the last they heard from her was in a few cryptic text messages saying someone was trying to steal her identity.

Hannah’s father, Ryan Kobayashi, flew to Los Angeles to help search for her.

“She’s been to Europe, Japan, but it’s just never happened where she’s not connected to anybody,” he told Eyewitness News.

He says that after Hannah missed her flight to New York last Friday night, she began sending strange messages to family members, mentioning a “spiritual awakening,” apologizing for her insanity, and then texting: “it was definitely intercepted”.

Even scarier – Hannah texted another friend that someone might be trying to steal her money and identity.

“She felt like she was in danger,” her father said. “She felt like someone was trying to get her ID or her phone.”

Hannah’s aunt, Larie Pidgeon, says this behavior is unlike her niece, who has made plans to attend an event in New York.

“She is very responsible. She is looking forward to this event. She had booked a hotel room that cost several thousand dollars, the ticket for the event was several hundred dollars.”

Some clues to her possible whereabouts came from social media sleuths. A photo was posted on Hannah’s Instagram account over the weekend. Some social media followers of Hannah’s aunt were able to deduce that the photo was taken at an event held at The Grove. More detective work uncovered a YouTube video that appeared to show Hannah.

Her phone last rang at LAX, but now she’s dead.

Family members say they have filed missing persons reports with both the LAPD and the LAX Police Department and are themselves beginning their own searches for Hannah.

“We just hope she’s safe, healthy and alive,” her father said. “And if anyone knows anything, any help would be greatly appreciated.”
