The size of the Republican House majority will be decided by the 7 remaining uncalled races

After more than a week Election daythe final outcome of the 2024 election has yet to be decided as seven House races remain uncalled.

Republican Donald Trump has won the presidency again, and the GOP will have a majority in the Senate. The GOP is expected to maintain a majority in the House of Representatives, but the size of that majority will be unclear until all the votes are counted.

The balance of power is currently 218 seats for Republicans and 210 for Democrats.

CaliforniaThe 9th Congressional District was the latest race to be called Friday night, as Democrat Josh Harder was projected by the Associated Press to win re-election over Republican challenger Kevin Lincoln.

Thursday, in Oregon’s 5th Congressional DistrictDemocrat Janelle Bynum was slated to unseat Republican incumbent Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer.

Several of the undecided House races are in California, which as of Tuesday had counted only about three-quarters of its statewide votes. California’s secretary of state issued a plea for patience on Thursday, announcing that the results would be certified on December 13.

Here’s how the unnamed races for House stand:

Democratic incumbent Rep. Mary Sattler Peltola is in a tight race in Alaska’s general congressional district, where he trails Republican entrepreneur Nick Begich.

As of Friday morning, Begich holds a more than 3-point lead at 49 percent of the vote, compared to Peltola’s 45.9 percent. The vote count is 145,754 to 136,319, with about 94% of the votes counted.

Republican John Duarte is leading former Democratic state Assemblyman Adam Gray in California’s 13th Congressional District, but the hotly contested race remains uncalled as of Friday.

About 84 percent of the votes have been counted, and Duarte holds a 50.5 percent to 49.5 percent lead. The pair are separated by just under 1,764 votes.

Iowa

1st Congressional District

Republican Rep. Mariannet Miller-Meeks holds a less than 1 percent lead over challenger Christina Bohannan with 99 percent of the vote counted. Miller-Meeks’ lead is just under 1,000 votes.

Bohannan called for a recount in her attempt to unseat Miller-Meeks. The Associated Press has not yet called the race because the margin was close enough that it could prompt a recount. Miller-Meeks declared victory and said she was confident in her leadership.

Tomorrow

2nd Congressional District

Democratic President Jared Golden holds a slim lead over Republican challenger Austin Theriault as of Thursday morning.

With 98 percent of the vote counted, Golden’s lead is less than 800 votes, according to the Associated Press. The official count from the Maine Secretary of State’s Office shows the difference at 2,159 votes, with Golden ahead.

Secretary of State Shenna Bellows expects the results to be finalized on Friday, WABI 5 reported.

“So in 2024, Maine had higher voter turnout than ever before, that’s very exciting. I think the Mainers were really into it. We’ve seen great turnout in our smallest towns because you have about 12,000 voters who chose someone or something or nothing, but an alternative to Golden or Theriault, who, mathematically, could flip the result on election night with Golden coming out on top,” Bellows said.
