The US Department of Labor is recovering $14,000 in back wages

The findings of the investigation led the US Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division, to find a violation of the Family Medical Leave Act by Methodist Family Health in the termination of an employee.

According to a statement, $14,082 in back wages was recovered in the effort.

“The Family Medical Leave Act allows eligible employees to care for themselves or their families without fear of losing their jobs,” said District Wage and Hour Director Hanz Grunauer of Little Rock.

“The U.S. Department of Labor will defend employee protections and flexibilities protected by law and will pursue all available remedies when these rights are violated.”

The worker qualified for 12 weeks of protected leave for a significant condition and parental leave after the arrival of the child.

To receive confidential compliance assistance from the Wage and Hour Division, employees and employers can call the agency’s toll-free helpline at 866-4US-WAGE (487-9243), regardless of their location.
