Eagles defensive trio delivers MVP-level performance in game-clinching win

The Philadelphia Eagles weren’t very polished during their Week 11 matchup against the Washington Commanders, but the Birds’ defense showed once again that they’re here to work.

They took control late but surrendered a late garbage landing. That put Washington up 18 points, but the game wasn’t as close as the final score of 26-18 would indicate. It also serves as another feather in Vic Fangio’s cap.

It was the Commanders lowest scoring total of the season so far.

We tip our hats to a trio of Eagles linebackers.

Zack Baun

On Wednesday, Zack Baun was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week. He kept his momentum going on Thursday Night Football, making 15 total tackles, including 1 TFL. He now has a career-high 102 tackles in the season, 47 more than he has ever recorded.

Baun’s most notable play was in the 4th quarter. He and teammate Reed Blankenship stopped quarterback Jayden Daniels before the first down. That produced a turnover on the downs. Philly scored a TD on its next two possessions.

Oh, and speaking of Reed Blankenship.

Reed Blankenship

Reed finished with 10 total tackles, but more impressive than that was his interception off the arm of Jayden Daniels. Washington’s rookie QB threw just two during his first ten NFL games.

The interception came at an opportune time in the 4th quarter. Daniels was looking at Noah Brown. Blankenship secured the ball at Washington’s 46-yard line, driving for Saquon Barkley’s second touchdown of the night.

Quinyon Mitchell

Mitchell may have only had one total tackle, but he shut down one of Washington’s best players. Before Thursday Night Football, Commander wide receiver Terry McLaurin had 847 yards and 10 touchdowns against the Eagles.

Q is definitely in the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year conversation. Read them and cry.

What else needs to be said?

It’s no secret Vic Fangio completely redefined the Eagles defense. With a number of other players including Brandon Graham, Nakobe Dean, Cooper DeJean, etc., it is difficult to find a river defensive player on the field.

Over the past four games, the Eagles have had 11 takeaways. With sole possession of the NFC East leader, fans hope the turnover party continues.

If the Eagles offense can continue to hold up their end of the bargain and be more consistent, we could be looking at a real Super Bowl contender.
