HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Strong trade winds will persist through the weekend. A slightly drier air mass over the islands will bring critical fire weather conditions to downwind areas on Friday. Another band of moisture brought in over the weekend will boost shower activity again. Expect clouds and showers to be concentrated over windy and mountainous areas. slack trades in the first half of the new week. Drier conditions with lighter winds will return on Tuesday, but there will be more typical trade wind showers.

The current long period of northerly swell will continue to subside through Friday and into the weekend. Along east-facing shores, a high surf advisory is in effect until Saturday and may need to be extended until early next week. A coastal flood statement is in place until Friday for the possibility of extreme high tide flooding.
