Quetta students protest against police brutality and hostel closure – ThePrint – ANIFeed

Balochistan (Pakistan), November 15 (ANI): In a show of solidarity, student groups in Quetta gathered outside the Press Club on Thursday to protest against alleged police brutality, the arrest of Baloch and Pashtun students and the recent closure of dormitories at the Bolan Medical College (BMC).

The demonstration was attended by various student organisations, including Baloch Students Action Committee (BSAC), Pashtun Students Federation (PSF) and Baloch Students Organization (BSO), The Balochistan Post reported.

The protesters claimed that more than 128 students were detained under Public Order Ordinance (MPO) 3. They also highlighted the hardship caused by the closure of BMC hostels, which left many students without accommodation.

Among those who participated in the protest were political figures such as Ghulam Nabi Marri of BNP, Asghar Khan Achakzai of ANP and Ishaq Baloch of National Party.

Speakers at the rally strongly condemned the police actions, demanding the immediate release of the detained students and reopening of BMC hostels, The Balochistan Post reported.

They called on authorities to address student grievances and hold those responsible for the alleged violence accountable.

This protest comes after an earlier joint press conference by the student unions where they condemned the police raid on BMC hostels on Tuesday night. The crackdown, which involved the use of tear gas and baton charges, targeted students – including female students – and led to several arrests.

The unions accused the police of using a minor incident as an excuse for the raid and criticized them for overstepping their authority while disregarding the cultural sensitivities of the Baloch and Pashtun communities. (YEAR)
