Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, has suspended a fraternity after a alleged sexual assault on October 25.

The Ivy League school temporarily suspended Chi Phi this week after a person reported she was “sexually assaulted by multiple males and forced to use ketamine and other drugs” over Halloween weekend, according to a Nov. 8 alert from Cornell University Police Department.

The individual went to police to report the incident on Nov. 8, according to police.

Neither Cornell nor Chi Phi immediately responded to questions from Fox News Digital, though police confirmed in a Nov. 8 crime alert that a fraternity where the incident occurred on Edgemoor Lane in Ithaca has been suspended “effective immediately.”

university newspaper, Cornell Daily Sunfirst reported Chi Phi’s temporary suspension. The Sun also reported that a group of student activists called Riot Moon smashed windows and spray-painted the Chi Phi fraternity house after the incident was reported.

Riot Moon told the newspaper that it “declares a campaign against fraternities as mass perpetrators of sexual violence on campus.”

The paper’s editorial board said in an op-ed on Tuesday titled “Ban the Frats” that the incident is “nothing new” to Cornell students.

“The problem runs deep at Cornell. It runs deeper than any fraternity, deeper than any generation of students, and certainly deeper than can be resolved with any action or suspension,” the board wrote. “It is the result of misogynistic, hierarchical organizations that are themselves rotten to the core. It’s becoming increasingly clear that the only way out of Cornell’s frat problem is to completely, permanently ban frats, replacing frats with democratic, inclusive spaces that don’t “commit unspeakable crimes apparently every semester.”
