10 Classic Teen Movies That Aged Pretty Terribly and 11 That Aged Surprisingly Well

Warning: This post contains sexual assault.

Recently, I he asked THE The BuzzFeed Community which classic teen movies I think have aged either really badly or surprisingly well.

Some answers are also from this reddit thread and this reddit thread.

Here are 11 classic teen movies that people say are aging well:

1.“As I’m writing this answer, I’m looking at OG Footloose with Kevin Bacon. This film and music – along with Bacon himself – have aged well, like fine wine and my vintage Gucci bag.”

“I’ve never seen the remake, but it’s not in the same league as the original. Take me back to the 80’s, someone FAST!”

2.“Does it hold up great? Dirty Dancing. Super ahead of its time with the abortion plot. The relationship is flirty but grounded, and the story is much more about the father/daughter dynamic than the Swayze romance.”

“He’s so charming and fun and sweet.”

6.The Breakfast Club aged well. They still deal with the same issues we have today, like different stereotypes of cliques and the ‘roles’ they have to play.”

7.Tuff Turf (1985) with a young James Spader, Robert Downey Jr. and Kim Richards. The plot involves new student Morgan (Spader), who foils a gang robbery and later falls in love with the leader’s girlfriend (Richards). I could watch this over and over.”

8.It’s not another teen movie it’s like Plane! for generic teen movies. There are a lot of references, but there are also enough really funny bits that you don’t have to have seen them all to think it’s funny.”

“This movie is golden. It uses classic and contemporary movies (when it was released) of that genre is the best way possible. If I ever meet Chris Evans, the first words out of my mouth will be, “You’ll never do better than It’s not another teen movie.'”

9.Spider-Man 2 it’s still gorgeous, expertly written and directed, and the effects hold up incredibly well.”

10.True genius. Everything about that movie is still funny and relevant. They treat their characters so much better than almost any other teen/college movie and they seem like real people.”

“I didn’t realize it at the time because I was 11, but when I got to college it became clear how great True genius it is.”

11.“Recently, I looked Rebel without a causeand I was surprised at how well it held up. Partly because of James Dean’s acting, but also because the portrayal of privileged youth left to their own devices seems more timely than ever.”

And here are 10 classic teen movies that people say are aging badly:

12.Greatwhere a 30-year-old is supposed to be sleeping with a 12-year-old.”

Two movie scenes: Susan says, "I like you and I want to spend the night with you." Josh replies: "You mean sleep over?"

In the film, Josh is a 12-year-old child in a grown man’s body. He gets a job and develops a romantic relationship with his colleague, Susan.

In 2021, Elizabeth Perkins, who played Susan, narrated Page six“We don’t see them having sex, but he takes my shirt off. I actually take off my shirt and he touches my breast and then we cut to the elevator door and he has a big smile on his face. We never say, “Oh, they slept together,” but they certainly cheated (today) wouldn’t have shown that we’re in a different time at all. “

13.Back to the future it’s horrifying, watching the sexual assault scene…”

In the film, after time traveling 30 years into the past, Marty McFly messes up when his parents, Lorraine and George, were supposed to meet. So to patch things up, Marty goes to the dance with Lorraine and plans to fake inappropriate advances on her so George will step in on her behalf. However, the bully, Biff, has his friends lock Marty in the trunk of a car and attacks Lorraine himself. George finds them and stops him.

14.Just Friends! That movie has aged beyond stupid! The anti-fatness and anti-gayness used in that movie is wild!”

Jan says, "Courtney wears nothing under her spankies." Les answers, "That's no excuse, Jan." and Jan says: "I can't help it if my numbers slip occasionally"

17.“After watching the new Brat Pack doc, I watched St. Fire Elm. It probably aged the worst compared to other Brat Pack movies because all the male characters were misogynistic and sexist.”

Andrew McCarthy, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson and Rob Lowe in 80s style vintage outfits pose together

“A male character (Billy) forces himself on women despite being married with a child. Another (Alec) cheats on his girlfriend of four years with the excuse that he’s not married yet, and another (Kirby) throws a tantrum when he finds out. the girl he likes is dating someone else.

Most of the theme is nice, but the plot and characters need better development. I would definitely be open to watching a modern remake.”

18.Animal House (apart from a few isolated lines).”

19.He loved Jake Ryan and 16 candlesbut i hate the scene where he “gives” his drunk and blacked out girlfriend to the nerd to make out with her. I can’t even stand that movie anymore.”

Jake makes a deal with "leave" the nerd takes Caroline home. he says, "It's so flashy, it won't make a difference"

20.Revenge of the Nerds. I loved that movie when I was a kid. For its time, it was truly an inclusive film. A “nerd” wasn’t just someone smart. It was anyone who didn’t fit. One of the characters is gay and the other nerds aren’t bothered by it. It is even listed as positive when applying for their fraternity. I, at the age of 10, was affected in a good way by this. But wow, does it really fail any modern standards in how it treats the gay character?”

Timothy Busfield, Brian Tochi and Curtis Armstrong, dressed as nerds, gathered around a messy table

“And the treatment of women is often poor. So many problems with the film now”.

21.And finally: “I know this bad girls it was a big hit and I watched it for the first time when I was about 12 in the late 2010s. I watched it again recently and then it opened my eyes to how many anti-fat, racist, pedophile and anti-gay jokes they were made.”

In a clothing store, Regina tries on a dress while Gretchen and Karen give shocked reactions

“People think this is a quality film with a complex story, but if you look Grease first, you will know this bad girls has exactly the same formula. “

folkore_fest

“I know there are some people out there who like it bad girlsand the message of being yourself and being kind to others still holds true. But the racist, anti-fat and pedophile (gym coach) jokes don’t.”

diamond_girl_7

“In my personal opinion, bad girls aged stupidly. Very stupid. Don’t get me wrong, it’s incredible. It’s a great movie. but nowadays bad girls it has a lot of anti-fatness and anti-gayness that wouldn’t pass.”
