Sanford Health is moving to Rapid City

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – Sanford announced today that it is taking control of Black Hills Orthopedic and Spine Center and Black Hills Surgical Hospital, along with Black Hills Surgery Center in Gillette.

According to a release from Sanford Health, they will be the parent organization of the facilities. This includes urgent care locations, clinics and an ambulatory surgery center.

Those locations will then transition to nonprofit status and begin operating as part of Sanford Health.

In a statement, Sanford Health President and CEO Bill Gassen said: “We look forward to establishing a more permanent presence in the region and continuing to work with others to expand comprehensive health care services for patients in western South Dakota, including Rapid City and the surrounding area.”

Black Hills Orthopedic and Spine Center was founded in 1976, and Black Hills Surgical Hospital has been here since 1997.

The process is expected to be completed as early as next week, but we’ll have more information on Monday when we hear directly from a Sanford Health official.
