Accused thief jumps off roof, hides in Porta-Potty to try to elude Ca. Police

A makeshift hiding place in a potty could not save an accused thief from custody, California police reported.

Officers responding to a burglary reported to a storage unit saw a 47-year-old man jump from one of the roofs around 1:40 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, Campbell police said in a news release.

Despite orders to stop, the man fled and police found three rucksacks containing knives and burglary tools on the roof. A section of the roof had been cut off.

Deputies and officers set up a perimeter and searched for the man, police said.

Officers found the man hiding in a nearby potty, where he was arrested without incident, police said.

He faces charges that include theft, resisting arrest, possession of burglary tools and possession of pepper spray, a taser and concealed dagger/dagger as a felon, police said.

Campbell is about a 50-mile drive southeast of San Francisco.
