Wisconsin posts sixth consecutive month of record hiring

MADISON, Wis. (WSAW) – Estimates from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show Wisconsin hitting a new record for employment in October 2024.

Governor Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) say the new record for total employment breaks the previous record set in September and marks the sixth consecutive monthly record high for state employment.

“With our continuous efforts during Year of the Worker to support high-demand industries, expand apprenticeship opportunities, and address our state’s generational workforce shortage. It is no surprise that we are seeing our sixth consecutive month of record employment here in Wisconsin,” said Governor Evers.

“We are building an inclusive economy in Wisconsin by supporting veterans, preparing and accommodating people with disabilities, investing in daycare and transportation options, and providing job placement and training assistance to anyone seeking career advancement,” Secretary DVD. Amy Pechacek said.

Preliminary employment estimates for October 2024 showed Wisconsin’s unemployment rate remaining at 2.9 percent, which is 1.2 percentage points below the national unemployment rate of 4.1 percent.

  • Data about the place of residence: The number of employees increased by 8,500 over the month and by 23,900 over the year to a record 3,068,000 employees.
  • Job details: Total nonfarm payrolls rose 1,400 over the month and 27,400 over the year to 3,043,800 jobs.
