Here we go again folks. Costco issued recalls for three popular food products due to potential listeria contamination.

The latest recalls from the retailer include Rana Chicken Truffle Carbonara, Tagliatelle Grilled White Chicken & Portobello Mushroom Sauce and Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon with lot number 8512801270.

The chicken products were sold from September to October 2024 and are connected to a larger (and expanding) recall involving pre-cooked meat maker BrucePac.

The reminded of salmon it was produced by Brooklyn-based Acme Smoked Fish Corp and sold at Costco stores between October 9 and 13.

Eating food contaminated with listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that mainly affects older adults, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns.

Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth, or life-threatening infection in the newborn. In addition, serious and sometimes fatal infections can occur in older adults and people with weakened immune systems.

The Costco recalls are the latest in a recent rash of listeria-related recalls affecting U.S. retailers, including Boar’s Head Deliready-to-eat chicken, frozen wafflesand many others.

said Dr. Céline Gounder CBS Mornings that a “more complicated food chain” is partly responsible for the recent increase in contamination.

“At every step of food processing, there’s the possibility of contamination. That’s number one. Consumers want ready-to-eat foods, so of course they’re more processed as a result,” she explained.

Anyone who purchased the Costco products is urged not to consume them and return them to their local Costco for a refund.

This is a developing story.
