Medical student blames roommate for letting him sleep awake during finals: ‘Are you his mom?

A busy college student wonders if he’s to blame after his roommate sleeps through the alarm during finals.

The 23-year-old brought up the question in a recent Redditt post on the popular “Am I the A——” subreddit, explaining that he and his roommate Justin (also 23) have been living together for two years.

According to the Reddit user, he and Justin, who are both medical students, went through “absolute hell” during their final exam week, which involved “surviving on 2-3 hours of sleep a day, fueled by coffee and energy drinks “.

He said that on the last day of exams, Justin was “unusually exhausted” and, before falling asleep at 1am, asked him to wake him up at 3am.

While the Reddit user agreed to do so, he realized he himself was “dead” by 2:30 a.m. and decided to wake Justin up early.

“I woke Justin up at 2:30 in the morning and told him the time and suggested he set an alarm so he wouldn’t oversleep. Justin sat up straight, rubbed his eyes and nodded and said “okay,” according to the post.

After the Reddit user fell asleep “almost instantly” following their conversation, he says they both woke up for the next day at 8am after setting an alarm for 6 and hitting the snooze button repeatedly .

“Justin freaked out, accusing me of not waking him up like I promised,” the poster wrote, noting that “Justin said he was too sleepy to understand what was going on and insisted I should have stayed awake to wake him up at 3am or at least make sure he was wide awake before bed.”

While the Reddit user expressed that he understands Justin’s frustration after his exam “didn’t go well,” he thinks it’s “unfair” to blame him for the incident.

Many people in the comments section apparently agreed, as one person wrote: “Is there a reason why Justin couldn’t set an alarm or more? Also, is there a reason why Justin thinks you’re his mother?”
