Acres Homes residents await promised CenterPoint repairs are weeks of street light outages

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — CenterPoint promises action after Eyewitness News raised concerns from Acres Homes residents.

Those residents are worried because the street lights on Maxroy Street near Cemetery Beautiful and South Victory Drive have been out for weeks.

Unetra Buckner and her grandmother, Mildred, only go outside during the day.

“It’s very disappointing, very aggravating and scary,” they explained.

Five street lights have been out on their street for more than a month.

They and several other neighbors called CenterPoint for service.

“Call after call after call, case number after case number, nothing resolved. We’ll be here in three days, nothing after three days. Call back the next day, same result,” said Unetra.

“I called them and complained about it,” said neighbor Mary Royston. “I tell them we are elderly people here. I’m 84 years old and I have to go outside and I can’t see anything.”

ABC13 we called ourselves CenterPoint.

A spokesman responded, saying repairs were expected to be completed by the end of the weekend.

Residents finally have a timeline for when the lights will be fixed, but they’re skeptical.

“I think they don’t care about the neighborhood we live in,” Mildred said.

“I think if we were in another gated community, River Oaks, Sugar Land or anywhere else, it wouldn’t be such a big deal,” Unetra added. “I truly believe the call would have been made and (and) the lights would have been on.”
