Putnam Co. Woman charged with alleged misconduct at a Cross Lanes childcare facility

A Wayne County woman is facing multiple charges for her alleged misconduct while working at a Cross Lanes childcare facility, triggering an investigation.

Amber Seiler, 29, of Poca, was charged with two counts of assault and battery on a disabled child after a video of Seiler allegedly committing a misdemeanor went viral on social media at Cross Lanes Child Care and Learning Center.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County District Court, a former employee at the facility saw Seiler hit a 4-year-old child in the mouth along with similar behavior between April and September 2024.

Following the video reports, the DoHS Office of Social Services earlier released a news release saying the department sent investigators to the facility, along with a deputy from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.

“Our top priority is the safety and well-being of children in West Virginia’s foster care. We take these allegations very seriously and are committed to taking swift and severe action based on the findings,” Cynthia Persily, Secretary of the West Virginia Department. Human Services, the press release said.

Seiler was ordered to house arrest with no contact with minors and her bond was set at $50,000.
