In the wake of Donald Trump’s decisive victory over Kamala Harris, some are wondering if the so-called “awakened” culture. could be to blame for the vice president’s defeat.

But what is awakened culture and what does it mean?

What is awake?

The term “woke” has shifted from its original meaning of being alert or aware, especially to social issues. It became a call to action during the Black Lives Matter movement a few years ago.

Over time, however, it took on a broader political meaning and was attached to several left-wing movements and causes.

President-elect Donald Trump and his surrogates have routinely lashed out at the reawakened movement, describing it as misguided social justice.

Over the decades, the “woke” has grown as a call to acknowledge issues like police brutality and systemic racism, especially during movements like Black Lives Matter.

More recently, however, the term has acquired negative connotations. According to Merriam-Webster, “woke” is sometimes seen as synonymous with extreme political liberalism. The term has expanded into phrases such as “awakening,” “awakening,” and “woke ideology,” often criticized by conservatives who see it as a divisive influence in areas such as workforce diversity, public schools, and legislation.

Early in the race for the White House, a 2017 clip resurfaced of Kamala Harris saying “everyone needs to be woke” ignited debate over the term.
