Baltimore-based Am Law 200 firm Miles & Stockbridge announced Tuesday that it is merging with Krooth & Altman, a Washington, DC-based real estate finance law firm.

With the merger, Miles & Stockbridge adds 51 employees, including 22 principals, eight associate attorneys and 21 support staff. The combined firm will employ more than 200 attorneys.

“We are excited about the prospect of this combination, and through this process have already built strong relationships with their management team and attorneys,” Nancy Greene, chairman, president and CEO of Miles & Stockbridge, said in a news release.

Krooth & Altman joins the finance and real estate section of the larger firm. Krooth specializes in financing involving loans insured by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and loans made by “government-sponsored enterprises” such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

“Miles & Stockbridge will now be able to offer real estate clients this niche expertise, while the Krooth & Altman team will have access to related practices and resources often needed by their clients, including tax, environmental, health care, litigation and bankruptcy. states of release.

“This highly specialized area complements Miles & Stockbridge’s real estate finance offerings,” added Greene.

Miles & Stockbridge’s board approved the plan, and the firm’s executives and Krooth & Altman partners voted separately to close the deal by the end of the year.

With this move, Miles & Stockbridge “continues its strategic expansion on the East Coast,” according to the press release. The addition of Krooth means Miles & Stockbridge has two offices in Washington. Krooth staff will continue to work in their DC office, at least for now.

The announcement follows the company’s expansion into New York earlier this year with an office in Midtown Manhattan. Last year, it expanded its existing office in Richmond.
