Moscow claims to have shot down 50 Ukrainian drones in 7 Russian regions overnight

Russia claimed on November 9 that it had shot down 50 Ukrainian drones in seven Russian regions overnight.

The claim comes as Ukraine has in the past few months stepped up its efforts to strike deep into Russia using home-made drones, targeting weapons depots, airfields and oil refineries to weaken Russia’s long-range combat capabilities .

Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed it foiled Kiev’s “attempt” to target unidentified sites with drones in Bryansk, Kursk, Novgorod, Smolensk, Tula, Oryol and Tver regions. It claimed that 28 drones were shot down over the Bryansk region in northern Ukraine.

Ukraine had not reacted to the Russian complaint at the time of publication.

Despite being limited to the use of long-range kamikaze drones, Kiev has achieved spectacular success in recent weeks.

One of the largest explosions of the large-scale invasion saw, in the words of a Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) source, an ammunition depot “literally wiped off the face of the earth” in the Tver region last month.

This came just a few days after Ukraine confirmed attacks on two other weapons depots, with the UK Ministry of Defense saying the combined strikes caused “biggest loss of ammo“in Russia during its all-out war against Ukraine.
