Trump transition team ‘already breaking the law,’ says senator who wrote it

Senator Elizabeth Warren accused the president-elect Donald Trump and his “law-breaking” transition team because he apparently did not sign binding agreements before taking office due to concerns about pledging to avoid any conflicts of interest as president.

Before September 1, applicants should enter into a memorandum of understanding with the General Services Administration to obtain support services. Before Oct. 1, candidates would have to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the federal government on terms of access to the agencies — and include an ethics plan.

trump card plans to sign the documents, a Trump aide told the press, but first he is focusing on making cabinet choices. The source did not say when the president-elect would sign the agreements, but said the delay was “not a concern at all.”

Warren is not alone in sounding the alarm about Trump’s missed deadlines.

Rep. Maryland Jamie Raskin he wrote on X in late October: “Federal law creates a process for major party candidates to engage in smooth transition planning. Trump and Vance have so far boycotted the process, thus already obstructing the prospects for an orderly transition.”

Raskin even wrote an Oct. 23 letter to Trump and JD Vance urging them and their transition team to promptly sign the agreements: “Your actions depart from well-established norms of the federal government and demonstrate a spectacular disregard for the successful continuation of the essential principle. the institutions of American democratic government.”

Failure to do so could “jeopardize the orderly transfer of executive power and threaten our national security,” he warned.

Concerns about Trump’s transition to White house it came four years after his tumultuous exit, which included crowds of Trump supporters cheering to “hang” then-Vice President Mike Pence and an attack on the Capitol building. Trump has promised pardons for those convicted of crimes related to January 6.
