Who is Iqbal Mohammed?

Iqbal is a lawyer who was falsely accused of rape by Anisah and was at the center of an “evil” and “evil” plot.

He was accused of kidnapping and stabbing the woman, but it was later revealed that the allegations were false and a small part of a “comprehensive and orchestrated” campaign of revenge.

Anisah tried to frame Iqbal for rape, claiming he sexually assaulted her multiple times in a “detailed and convincing” false report.

She even went so far as to recruit her ex-boyfriend Mustafa Hussain, 34, into her scheme.

The twisted plot saw the seasoned lawyer sending intimate messages about Iqbal’s affair to his wife and colleagues.

Anisah emailed the head of the chamber and demanded an investigation into his integrity.

Her scorn took a more sinister turn when she created fake emails to back up her false claims, making it look like they were sent by Iqbal threatening her, amounting to “blackmail”.

But after the emails turned out to be fake, she then accused him of raping her multiple times, giving detailed and compelling accounts to investigators.

Iqbal was arrested in his chambers in June 2015 in front of his colleagues.

He was then questioned by police for hours about crimes he did not commit while his family home was searched for evidence.

In a final, desperate attempt to frame Iqbal, Anisah then staged her own kidnapping and stabbing – stabbing an ex-boyfriend as an accomplice – who confessed to police that he ordered him to stab her three times.

When he refused, fearing he might accidentally kill her, Anisha is believed to have stabbed herself – nearly severing her femoral artery with a horrific wound to her thigh.

She told police that Iqbal had ordered the attack on her, later eliciting a falsified confession from an imaginary killer.

Fortunately, her plot was foiled and Anisah was convicted of perverting the course of justice.

Iqbal, at the time, compared his ordeal to the thriller Fatal Attraction, explaining that he was unable to watch the film because “it was exactly like what happened to me”.

In the film, Glenn Close’s character Alex stalks and terrorizes lawyer Dan, played by Michael Douglas, his wife and child after a one-night stand.

Anisah is believed to have first contacted Iqbal after watching him in the 2008 BBC series The Barristers.

He was sent her resume and she sought career advice via email and LinkedIn, but their relationship turned flirtatious in 2013 — the same year he married his wife.

It soon emerged that Iqbal was married and the snobbish lawyer began an elaborate campaign of revenge described in court as “vicious” and “even diabolical”.

Anisah received a discretionary life sentence with a minimum term of four years and six months.

What happened to Iqbal Mohammed?

After a grueling court trial, Iqbal believed he had escaped Anisah’s harassment, which eventually “left him contemplating suicide.”

But in a devastating blow, she has now been released from prison after becoming the first person to receive life for perverting the course of justice in April 2021.

Her sentence was overturned by the Court of Appeal seven months later, which changed her jail term to 10 years, but she was released after serving less than four years in prison.

After her initial arrest, Iqbal remained married to his wife and continued in his role as a solicitor specializing in commercial litigation at St Philips Chambers.

Iqbal obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Warwick in 2005.

Then he passed the professional bar course at the BPP Faculty of Law in 2007.

The lawyer then specialized in commercial law shortly afterwards at the University of Birmingham and worked to become one of the most respected in his field.

His efforts in law were celebrated in 2019 when he was nominated for Barrister of the Year by the Birmingham Law Society.

Prior to this, he was also nominated for Commercial Lawyer of the Year by the Asian Bar Association in 2017.

Since Iqbal has been conservative online and rarely shares information about his family life, career or future goals.

But he kept busy and active in his respected field. One of his recent case reflections was Pervaiz v Akhtar, which was delivered in July 2024.

It involved a family who bought a house, but when they got to the property, there was a woman inside who claimed the house was hers and that it was and was never for sale.

The series will air at 9pm on ITV1 on Wednesday, but will be available to air on ITVX afterwards.
