LAKEWOOD, Ohio (WOIO) – Police are encouraging residents to check their vehicle license plates as many were changed over the weekend.

According to Lakewood police, the perpetrators changed the plates on several vehicles parked in the Nicholson-Emerson-Harlon area.

If you find that your vehicle has an incorrect license plate, call the LPD non-emergency line at (216) 521-6773.

The correct number plate number is shown on the vehicle registration card and you can also check it at

Police added that changing license plates is considered a theft offense.

There are no arrests at this time.

Number plate screws/locking devices can also be attached to your plates. and are available for purchase at local hardware and auto parts stores.
