Today (November 13), a court remanded Noyon Mia (40), husband of the late Shantana Begum, to three days’ remand after he was brought before her on a murder case filed on Monday.

Noyon Mia and Shantana Begum (37) had married six months ago.

The decapitated and dismembered body of Shantana was recovered from a nursery in Savar’s Birulia area on Monday (November 11), creating a social media storm.

The body was first discovered by an employee of the nursery at 3:00 p.m.

Abdul Khalek Ghazi, the owner of the nursery, said the employee found the body while watering the plants.

The locals were then notified, and the police soon arrived at the scene.

“The frame was covered with grass and straw. Later, the police came and recovered the rest of the body parts from a plastic bag at a distance,” Gazi said.

When the head was recovered, locals recognized the woman as Shantana.

Police then went to her rented house, where they found Noyon (40) fast asleep.

At first, Noyon claimed the victim was not his wife. He later said it was her, adding that she had been missing for the past two days.

Then, the police detained him on suspicion.

The police requested a preventive arrest for 7 days.

Speaking to The Business Standard, Savar Model Police Station in-charge Birulia Wazed Ali said, “After receiving information from the locals, we recovered the body of the deceased and sent it to the hospital for post-mortem. Her husband has been arrested as a suspect in this incident, the victim’s mother Rajbhanu has filed a murder case at the Savar Model police station as the complainant.

He also said that the motive of the crime will be known after the investigation.

The victim’s mother, Rajbhanu, told TBS that Noyon was a bricklayer. Shantana had married him after leaving her first husband.

She also said that this was Noyon’s second marriage. He has two daughters and a son from his first marriage.

The discovery of Shantana’s decapitated body sent shivers across social media.
