Visitation announced for 15-year-old student killed in accidental shooting

A visitation has been announced for a 15-year-old high school student killed in an accidental shooting Saturday night.

Ray Estep died on Saturday. He was a student at Kenton Ridge High School and on the bowling team, according to a tribute posted on the Littleton & Rue Funeral website.

As previously reported by News Center 7deputies and medics from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office were called to 4400 block of Reno Road around 6:37pm on Saturday.

A group of teenagers were sitting outside when the shooting happened.

“Inappropriate horseplay situation involving a firearm,” said Lt. Kristopher Schultz of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

A 16-year-old brought a gun to the party.

“A juvenile with a firearm who went there was there as a guest. It didn’t come out of the blue,” Schultz said.

The teenager pointed the gun at the victim and pulled the trigger.

Deputies say the magazine was removed from the gun and the teenager thought it was empty.

The single round left in the gun fired, striking Ray Estep in the torso.

The teenager was taken to hospital but died from his injuries around 7.35pm

Visitation for Ray Estep is Sunday, November 17th from 2-6pm at Littleton & Rue Funeral Home. A private service will be held on Monday.

News Center 7 is not naming the teenager charged because we do not routinely name juveniles unless they are charged in adult court.
