The police of St. Helens arrests two high school teachers on sexual abuse charges

On Tuesday, police officers in St. Helens announced that they had arrested a current and former teacher at St. Helens, being accused of sexual abuse. This comes after a two-month investigation by police in St. Helens after allegations of sexual abuse at school.

The current teacher has been identified as 46-year-old Eric Stearns. According to the district’s website, he teaches choir. Court documents show he was indicted on seven counts of sexual abuse.

Former teacher Mark Collins, 64, is also accused of inappropriately touching minors at the school. He was indicted on two counts of second degree sexual assault and one count of attempted second degree sexual assault.

The police of St. Helens says she received reports of alleged sexual abuse, which prompted her to conduct interviews and issue a records subpoena related to the allegations.

The case is now in the Columbia County District Attorney’s office, both Stearns and Collins are in the Columbia County Jail. The district has a board meeting on Wednesday, KATU is on your side and we will press them on the timing of these allegations and whether they did enough to protect the students.
