We all abide by the Prime Minister’s line about being united: Keshav Prasad Maurya

November 13, 2024 09:17 IST

In his first newspaper interview since the Lok Sabha polls, Uttar Pradesh MP CM Keshav Prasad Maurya predicted a strong BJP showing in the upcoming by-elections in the state.

The BJP is poised to win a majority of the nine seats on the basis of organizational strength and the achievements of the two-engine government in the state. We only see the fight in one or two places.

It is true that our party performed poorly in the Lok Sabha polls in the state, contrary to our belief and expectations. The Congress-led opposition has succeeded in misleading the voters with its false narratives. Now their lies are exposed. Moreover, the recent assembly election results in Haryana, where the BJP formed the government for the third consecutive term, gave a befitting response to the Opposition’s false narrative on issues like Agniveer and the Constitution amendment efforts.

It is not appropriate for me to make any comment on the Prime Minister’s statement. Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is our supreme leader gave the slogan ‘Ek hai toh safe hai’ (if you are together you will be safe). We all just walk this line. Our party has always talked about unity. The opposition takes such statements out of context because they have to make a policy of Muslim peace.

Certainly. The organization was bigger than the government yesterday, it is today and it will be tomorrow. It is only through the hard work of the organization that we are in power both in the state and at the Centre. This is not the first time I put the organization above the government. And before 2022, I said the same thing in a tweet. But this time, the statement was misinterpreted, with many thinking that I was saying this in light of the poor results of the Lok Sabha polls in the state. But that was not true. I am a disciplined soldier of my party. I adore PM Modi who had the guts to call for ‘sabka saath sabka vikas’ (development for all). Can Rahul Gandhi or Akhilesh Yadav show such courage?

(Smiles) No, that’s not true. I have excellent relations with CM. We both filed together in 2017, he as CM and me as Deputy CM. Since then we have been together. This is the problem with the opposition.

We will repeat 2017 in 2027 by winning over 300 seats out of 403.

This is something outside my remit. I can’t comment.

Having an ambition and the party’s decision are two different things. I am a disciplined party worker and perform any duty given to me with all diligence and honesty.

PDA is nothing but a Parivar Development Authority. Akhilesh Yadav (of SP) is a visionless man. His party is full of criminals and boys. Good people cannot survive in his party. Those who are there today will leave the party soon. This is my prediction.

If he is so kind to SCs and OBCs, why doesn’t he appoint a person from these castes as Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha in his place? He should also nominate SCs and OBCs as party presidents in the states. But he will never do that. Both Rahul and Akhilesh are feudalistic and power hungry.
