Drivers warned of delays and diversions for large hauls

Motorists have been warned of possible delays, with diversions on a stretch of the A27 while two large pieces of electrical equipment are carried by a slow-moving convoy.

The supergrid transformers will be moved at 07:00 GMT on Sunday from the port of Shoreham in West Sussex to a substation near Uckfield, East Sussex.

The 24-mile journey, which includes travel on the A27, A26 and A22, is expected to take six to eight hours at a maximum speed of 12 mph (19.3 km/h).

East Sussex Highways has urged road users to allow extra time for their journeys.

An A27 diversion will be in place eastbound from the Devil’s Dyke roundabout and westbound from Lewes Road.

Lane one of the A27 eastbound from Devil’s Dyke Road to the A23 roundabout will remain open to divert traffic to the diversion.

Vehicles in both directions will be diverted onto the A293, Old Shoreham Road and the A270 to rejoin the A27.

The junctions of Ditchling Road, Carden Avenue and Coldean Lane on the A27 will also be closed.

Southbound traffic on the A23 London Road will only be able to access the A27 westbound outside the A23 Patcham roundabout, not eastbound.
