Investigators are looking into the cause of the explosion on W. Franklin Street

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – One person is being treated for burns after an explosion on Franklin Street in Evansville.

According to the Evansville Police Department, who tell us it happened at the Heritage Petroleum building on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say an oil truck that was inside the store exploded.

Investigators say the explosion occurred when an employee was removing the fuel tank from the truck and sparks from his torch ignited the fuel on the ground.

We’re told the worker was rushed to hospital.

EPD officers say the severity of his injuries is unknown.

Authorities on the scene say the fire is contained and there is no threat to the public.

Several people I spoke to in the area say they heard and felt the explosion minutes after a fire alarm started going off.

Investigators tell us the investigation into the explosion is complete.

We have multiple reporters on the scene and working to learn more.
