Police say the driver, who does not live in Detroit, initially fled, but was arrested when he returned to the scene two hours later with a blood alcohol level hitting double digits on a breathalyzer.

On Tuesday, Ahmad Jastta, 30, of Roseville, was charged in connection with the crash. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged him with one count of operating while intoxicated causing death and three counts of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury.

But Junior’s aunt, Jawyna Griffin, says no matter what happens now, her nephew will never come back.

“My whole family, we’re traumatized, nothing prepared me for the images in my head. I can’t close my eyes,” Jawyna said.

This security footage shows the accident. You can see the white car speeding west on 7 Mile, jumping the red light and hitting the two vehicles.

We stopped filming right before the impact, but Jawyna says her twin sister, Tawyna’s vehicle flipped onto its side.

“I saw my niece lying on the ground, unconscious, my other nephew, he was in shock, and my baby was just laying there, my nephew lifeless,” Jawyna said.

There were three other children in the vehicle. Jawyna tells me that her 5-year-old granddaughter, Kiaree, has a brain injury from a fractured skull. Her nephew De-mari, 21, and her niece LaCresha, 23, both suffered neck and spine injuries in the crash.

“LaCresha has been released from the hospital. De-mari has just been moved from intensive care to a regular room. And Kiaree, they had to intubate her, they took all the tubes out of her this morning. So hopefully, fingers crossed and praying. she will be able to move out of intensive care today,” Jawyna said.

“To say they’re going to be traumatized is an understatement,” asked 7 News Detroit reporter Faraz Javed.

“Yes, we now have to figure out how life will go without him because a drunk driver decided to get behind the wheel,” Jawyna said.

“Life will never be the same for you guys,” Faraz asked.

“He will never, ever be the same. This is his best friend. He told me yesterday that he wants a Bible so he can communicate with his cousin,” Jawyna said.

“The fact that the driver turned around and surrendered, does that give you a sense of peace?” asked Faraz.

“No really, no! What he did was unforgivable. Tell him you took the life of a 7-year-old who had a lot of life to live. He liked to climb trees, fished a lot. He liked to catch Take things apart and put them back together Last time I saw him he said aunty look what I did?

A candlelight vigil is scheduled for this Saturday at 7 Mile and Mound, where Junior lost his life. The family has also set up a GoFundMe https://www.gofundme.com/f/jerome-coleman-jr
