Small businesses want the suspected thief to stay behind bars after the latest crime

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Several small business owners want a suspected thief behind bars for his latest alleged crime, after police reports say he targeted a shopping center two years in a row.

FOX5 will first show surveillance video of thieves breaking into a podcast studio near Maryland Parkway and Pebble Road from passing through a wall. The victims were notified of an arrest in late September, and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police are naming suspect Shawn David Morrow as the perpetrator.

“I immediately recognized Morrow due to having investigated and arrested him for numerous other burglaries in the past,” a detective states in the police report.

At least one of Morrow’s most recent cases has been transferred to District Court. Several current charges in Las Vegas Justice Court include business theft, plus possession of a stolen vehicle and vehicle theft.

Morrow is being held without bond. Nov. 6, Morrow had a district court appearance but refused to be transported.

One of the most recent robbery victims, a smoke shop in the strip mall near Maryland Parkway and Pebble Road, said Morrow targeted them the previous year. A 2023 police report names Morrow as a suspect in a March 2023 burglary: He allegedly stole a gun, nearly $2,000 worth of cigarettes and a computer.

The owner of the smokehouse tells FOX5 off camera that they are frustrated that the suspect was released from jail and allowed to commit more crimes and target him again.

In June 2023, Morrow was arrested on other burglary and theft charges, including breaking into that smoke shop. Last fall, according to court records, several charges were dismissed in plea bargains. Records show Morrow entered a treatment center earlier that year. He was also placed on probation for up to two years.

“The fact that this guy was in prison … and then he was released again so he could do this again, it’s very frustrating,” said Matthew Kadish of Las Vegas Podcaster Studios.

“This is just blatant disrespect for the rule of law on the part of this guy. I really just hope (the courts) get on with it, understand that this guy is not going to learn a lesson and get better,” said co-owner Alex Almony of Las Vegas Podcaster Studios.

According to the previous court hearing, Morrow’s next appearance has been rescheduled for November 18.
