Dispute over allegedly stolen caravan land 40 years in court

Nov. 12 — A dispute involving an allegedly stolen RV in late October has brought felony and misdemeanor charges for a 40-year-old man in Flathead County District Court.

Prosecutors arraigned Donald Lester Church on one count of assault with a weapon and one felony count of criminal mischief following the Oct. 29 standoff. He is expected to appear before Judge Robert Allison on November 7 for his arraignment.

The confrontation happened after two people came across their allegedly stolen RV on the property along Hungry Horse Boulevard, according to court documents. As the pair tried to retrieve the camper, Church threw a large piece of wood through the front driver’s side window of their truck, court documents said.

One person reportedly suffered injuries to his hands and legs after being hit by a tree.

Church later admitted to responding Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputies that he broke the window of the victims’ truck, according to court documents. He said he lost his temper.

Assault with a weapon is punishable by up to 20 years in Montana State Prison and a $50,000 fine. The criminal misdemeanor carries a maximum sentence of six months in county jail and a fine of up to $1,500.
