UN Secretary-General António Guterres is again under fire for not speaking out against Francesca Albanese, the controversial UN special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories who was convicted of being anti-Semitic.

Albanese is traveling to the US to present his latest report, “Genocide as Colonial Erasure,” to the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee, which oversees social, humanitarian and cultural issues.

Albanese’s report, now widely circulated among member state representatives, shows that “the masks are coming off,” according to Anne Bayefsky, president of Human Rights Voices and director of the Touro University Institute for Human Rights and the Holocaust.

“Albanese’s goal is the destruction of the Jewish state, period,” Bayefsky said, arguing that Albanese’s report is “a new, unbroken revelation — translated, reproduced and spread around the world by the United Nations — completely ignorant of regional and religious history.

“(Albanian) claims that the Jewish people are settlers in Israel and have been involved in a series of genocidal crimes as part of ‘a project of a century.’ It would be laughable if her hatred and incitement to violence were not so deadly.”

Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the UN, told Fox News Digital Albanian that she “failed in her role as UN special rapporteur that she has no interest in the well-being of Israelis or the ordinary people of Gaza, but has shown that she promotes the spread of hatred. it has managed to continue to peddle dangerous anti-Semitic tropes and openly support the Hamas terrorists occupying Gaza.”

He also issued a warning to US colleges, saying Albanese’s “latest reports show how deep her anti-Semitism runs,” adding that she “should not be allowed anywhere near any educational institution to – and can spread vicious anti-Semitism under the UN banner”.

On October 17, Albanese retweeted a rant accusing the Jewish state of “bloodlust,” calling it “a must-read for the ages.”

Accompanying the article was a cartoon depicting a person in a breathing machine and hazmat suit, wearing an Israeli flag and an American flag lapel pin, with bloody hands giving two thumbs up. Bayefsky said the image was “classic anti-Semitism”.

Fox News Digital asked Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, whether the secretary-general could censor Albanese for her anti-Semitic comment and whether Guterres believes Albanese is acting in accordance with the UN Code of Conduct.

Haq said that “as a matter of principle” Guterres does not “comment on rapporteurs” and does not have the authority to fire Albanese or reduce her salary.

Asked about her anti-Semitic remarks, Haq said the UN chief “strongly opposes anti-Semitism, from anyone.”

Albanese’s critics say she does not respect the UN code of conduct for special procedures mandate holders of the Human Rights Councils, which states that “all human rights must be treated fairly and equally” and that mandate holders must “observe the highest standards of … probity, impartiality , fairness, honesty and kindness. faith.”

Pascal Sim, a spokesman for the UN Human Rights Council, was asked by Fox News Digital whether the council could censure Albanese for her behavior and anti-Semitism or remove her from office.

Sim said that “the positions of the Human Rights Council are expressed in the decisions, resolutions and presidential statements that its 47 member states adopt at the end of each of its sessions.” He further explained that “at this time, I have no information on what the council may or may not do with regard to special procedures mandate holders, other than what was decided recently at the 57th session just concluded”.

Bayefsky said the failure to address Albanese’s behavior is upsetting.

“In yet another scandal, UN Secretary-General Guterres is bending over backwards to protect Albanians rather than her victims,” Bayefsky said.

Bayefsky said that “absolutely nothing would stop him from denouncing her anti-Semitic behavior, calling for her dismissal and taking the case of flagrant violations of UN codes of conduct to his own UN legal affairs office for next steps.”
