Georgia State student arrested, two at large after armed robbery in dorm

Georgia State University police say one student has been arrested and two others are on the run after an armed robbery in one of the school’s dormitories on Oct. 30.

Investigators say it appears it all revolved around a hoodie.

Several GSU students were shocked by the crime they knew nothing about until FOX 5 asked them about it.

GSU Police say two students were robbed in their room at the Piedmont Central dormitory near the intersection of John Wesley Dobbs Avenue and Courtland Street.

“I live here so it’s like I think somebody could just as easily come in and rob somebody,” GSU student Taylor Palmore said.

Police at Georgia State University say a female student accused another student of stealing her hoodie. There was some sort of altercation and investigators say the first student called two men who don’t go to Georgia State to retrieve him.

Police say the first student brought the men to rob that student and another.

Investigators say one of them may have been armed and it’s unclear what they took.

“It’s very scary,” said GSU student Charliza Faulkner. “I never got a notification about it.”

“I didn’t feel safe, but I mean, I’ve seen emails about stuff going around, but this is messed up,” GSU student Isaiah Obasi said.

GSU police say they have arrested and charged the student who brought the men in, but will not identify her at this time.

Investigators say they have also identified the two men in the images posted online. Students were left concerned that they were never told about the armed robbery in their building.

“The fact that GSU didn’t notify us is even crazier. You’d think they’d want us to be aware of your surroundings and know something like this was going on,” Palmore said.

Investigators say the crime was not random and was isolated. GSU police say they didn’t send a notification because they weren’t notified until two hours after the crime, and the people involved had already left campus.

“I wish they would let us know because things like this can be very scary, especially for me and as parents,” Faulkner said.

Students say they wish they had been notified about this, although police say this was an isolated incident and hope policies will change in the future.
