Trump gathers in the iconic Madison Square Garden

In the final week of his campaign, former President Donald Trump will check off an item on his bucket list on Sunday: a rally in the iconic Madison Square Garden. The avid Broadway aficionado will put on a manatee show, with musical guests and a host of Republican allies.

It’s a moment Trump has long said he wanted to have in the state where he faced criminal and civil lawsuits, became a convicted felon and built a business empire.

“I think it’s going to be a great time and it’s really going to be a celebration of the whole thing, you know, because it’s coming to an end a few days after that. The campaign; I will not campaign again. Then. I’m going to campaign to make America great,” Trump said of the upcoming Madison Square Garden rally during a local radio interview with Cats & Cosby on Thursday.

During his civil fraud trial, Trump decided to attend his court hearings voluntarily, splitting time between the courtroom and the campaign trail as he used his criminal prosecutions to rally supporters around what he claimed it was a government rip-off, allegations prosecutors vehemently denied.

He made several smaller campaign stops during his seven-week criminal trial earlier this year and held a rally in the Bronx and on Long Island in an attempt to court the Hispanic and black voters who make up the majority of the area’s population.

Throughout the former president’s travels through the blue Democratic state, he has long joked that he could flip New York, a state that Democrats have won in the last nine elections.

In an arena format that symbolizes confidence and celebrity status, Trump’s appearance will serve as the final argument. Instead, Vice President Kamala Harris does it on the Ellipse in Washington, DC, where Trump spoke on January 6, 2021, before attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

The former president, recalling the past nine years campaigning for the highest office in the land, coined the event as a “celebration of the whole thing.”

“Well, it’s New York, but it’s also kind of the end of my campaign. When you think about it, I mean, I’ve been doing it for nine years now, I’ve had two great choices. One was better than the others,” Trump said.

On Sunday, Trump will be joined by several surrogates who have appeared with him on the campaign trail — including North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Vivek Ramaswamy. Also in attendance will be House Speaker Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise and Conference Speaker Elise Stefanik, as well as several family members and donors.

Trump’s close friend and donor Steve Witkoff, who played golf with Trump during the second attempt on his life in West Palm Beach last monthis scheduled to speak at the rally as well.

Trump’s rally in New York, while not a battleground state, will provide an opportunity to capture a large national audience given the media market and location in the area.

It’s a strategy campaign officials have implemented in the latter part of Trump’s campaign, seeing benefits in visiting places outside battleground states to help emphasize a message.

For example, on Friday, Trump visited Texas to highlight immigration, creating a campaign split screen for Harris, who showed up in Houston later in the day for an event focused on abortion rights.
