IND vs NZ: Virat Kohli’s Mitchell Santner nightmare continues, dismissed for 17

Virat Kohli’s nightmare against Mitchell Santner continued in the Pune Test as he was dismissed for just 17 runs in the second innings of the Pune Test on October 26, Saturday. This was the sixth time Kohli had been dismissed by Santner across all formats of the game as India’s run chase was wrecked by the left-arm spinner.

Kohli was dismissed by Santner from a full toss in the first innings on Friday as the New Zealand spinner took a career-best 7 wickets. The onus was on the Indian batsmen to save the team and the team got off to a good start thanks to a 62-run stand between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. However, the ports started to collapse after the lunch break.

Santner faced Kohli, who was very cautious with his approach. Kohli’s defense looked to be on point till the 30th over. Off the last ball, Santner decided to pull a ball at Kohli and it hit the Indian star’s back leg. He was immediately dismissed by the on-field umpire and Kohli went for the review.

The ball tracker showed that it was an umpire’s call in the end and it left Kohli and the Pune fans stunned.

Santner destroys the Indian batting order

After his first-innings heroics, Santner continued to haunt the Indian batsmen on Saturday. He started things off with the wicket of Rohit Sharma and then managed to bowl Shubman Gill with an absolute peach. Jaiswal, who looked set for 77 off 65 balls, was the next to fall for India.

Santner would then make a sensational effort to drop Pant for a duck, before getting Kohli. Santner would then get his second 5-wicket haul of the game by dismissing Sarfaraz Khan.

The left-arm spinners have dismissed Kohli twice in Tests, thrice in ODIs and once in T20Is.
