Paul Taylor’s murder: being safe when ‘discretion is a must’

Army veteran Paul Taylor was a 56-year-old “gentle and loving” father.

He lived in Annan, Dumfries and Galloway and worked at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.

Unbeknownst to his family, he was leading a double life, something they only discovered through the most horrific of circumstances.

“I will never get the chance to hear from Paul about his lifestyle choices,” his widow Maria wrote in a victim impact statement, adding, “but I don’t judge him.”

Paul was killed by Jack Crawley.

The two had previously met for sex through the Grindr app.

Last October, they went to a secluded area of Carlisle, where Crawley then hit Paul with a hammer and stole his car.

His body was not discovered until seven months later.

Crawley also tried to kill another man near York in January, in what was called almost a “carbon copy” of Paul’s murder. His victim, also aged 50, managed to fight him off.
