Two charged after $7,000 stolen from Hendersonville home safe

Hendersonville police responded Thursday to a burglar alarm at a residence with a broken back door and $7,000 missing from a safe inside.

According to authorities, surveillance footage showed a car near the home at the time of the incident, and a nearby license plate reader had detected the same vehicle a short time before.

Investigators traced the vehicle to 22-year-old America Pena, a former caregiver for an elderly resident who had recently moved out of the home. When questioned, Pena allegedly confessed to being involved in the burglary and said she had committed a previous theft from the same resident while she was a caregiver.

A further investigation led to 22-year-old Annie Saysombath, who also allegedly confessed to authorities about her role in the burglary.

Both Pena and Saysombath were charged with aggravated burglary, theft of property over $1,000 and vandalism. Pena faces an additional charge for the previous theft.
