The Shine the Light campaign returns during Women’s Abuse Awareness/Prevention

The campaign has been running since 2010 and aims to raise awareness of violence against women by turning communities purple for the month of November.

Sisters of Liberty of Sault Ste. Marie have announced the return of their annual Shine the Light on Woman Abuse campaign and contest.

The campaign comes as part of Ontario Women’s Abuse Awareness/Prevention Month, which takes place in November.

The Shine the Light campaign was launched by the London-based Center for Abused Women in 2010 and aims to raise awareness of violence against women by turning communities purple for the month of November.

“We are asking our community to help us reach our goal and color the city purple this month,” said a statement from the Freedom Sisters.

“Replace your porch light bulbs, turn off some purple lights, paint a purple light bulb on your window, make purple cupcakes, or any other creative way you choose to show your community that you stand behind survivors of abuse and domestic violence. I have completed your purple decor.”
