Another Trump case put on hold

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – Some of President-elect Donald Trump’s criminal legal woes may soon go away.

Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election has forced special counsel Jack Smith to consider dropping the criminal election interference case against him.

Responding to a motion by the special counsel, a federal judge in Washington has agreed to drop the criminal case against President-elect Donald Trump.

In a legal filing, the special counsel said he needed time to assess what he called the “unprecedented circumstance” of Trump’s victory in Tuesday’s presidential election.

US Department of Justice policy effectively prohibits prosecution of a president while in office.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to four counts of attempting to undermine the results of the 2020 election.

The case stems from allegations about how then-President Donald Trump did or did not act when his supporters marched on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. Hundreds were accused of destroying government property and trying to interfere with official procedures.
