Here’s what you should know about Donald Trump’s presidential agenda

What will another Donald Trump presidency look like? The president-elect gave us a pretty good idea, outlining the administration’s goals in a platform called Agenda 47

At the same time, the Heritage Foundation, one of Washington’s most prominent right-wing think tanks, has drawn up a nearly 900-page plan on how it plans to push the US government and society to the far right, called Project 2025. The group public policy research firm began creating policy plans for Republican administrations in 1981, when Ronald Reagan was about to take office, and has done so again this year in during the Trump campaign.

Despite Trump repeatedly denying any connection to the Heritage Foundation or Project 2025, more than 140 members of the previous Trump administration worked on it. Vance also has very close ties to the group and its members, and Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts praised him and said he would be a “leader” of the movement. Vance also wrote in advance of Roberts’ new book, The early light of dawn.

Below, see the differences and similarities between Trump’s 2025 plan and Project 2025 on four key issues, and learn how the Republican’s second presidency will affect everyone.

They both want to close the border.

Trump’s plan: Trump has vowed to preside over “the largest deportation program in American history” once he re-enters the White House in January 2025. Not only does he want to deport migrants who have crossed the border illegally (he and Vance were unclear if that includes unaccompanied children), he wants to kick out Dreamers, reverse the Democrats’ “open border policies” and stop processing thousands of asylum applications asylum He is also pushing for a reduction in the legal immigration pathways required for migrants to become US residents or citizens.

Project 2025: The conservative group wants to restore “every single immigration-related rule that was issued” during the 2017-2021 Trump administration. It calls for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to launch immediate and mass deportations across the country — even if that means raiding schools, hospitals and religious institutions for illegal immigrants.

He supports Trump’s construction of a wall on the southern border and wants to militarize the border, expand immigration detention centers, end protections for thousands of Dreamers and refugees, and allow state and local police to enforce federal immigration laws.

They both want to get rid of the Department of Education.

Trump’s plan: The president-elect wants to dismantle diversity programs at all levels of education and supports defunding “any school or program that pushes critical race theory, gender ideology, or other racially, sexually or politically inappropriate content on our children.” He also wants to redirect private university endowment money into an online “American Academy” which it claims will provide “a truly world-class education” and university degrees all Americans, free. “It will be strictly apolitical and no revivalism or jihadism will be allowed,” the winning candidate said.

Project 2025: The group is calling on Congress to eliminate the Department of Education and what it described as its overly progressive agenda and “return control of education to the states.” Among other things, it supports ending federal school funding, eliminating the Head Start program (which provides education to young children from low-income families) and encouraging home-based child care instead. This would not only result in hundreds of thousands of qualified teachers losing their jobs, but also leave hundreds of thousands of children without adequate early education. Read more Here.

Both want to restrict rights for the LGBTQ+ community.

Trump’s plan: On transgender rights, Trump — who falsely claimed, “Your child goes to school and comes home days later with surgery” — wants to stop care for gender-affirming minors. He said he would reverse President Joe Biden Title IX expansion of protections for transgender students and promised to allow only boys and girls sports in schools.

“We’re going to get the … transgender insanity out of our schools and keep men out of women’s sports,” he said recently Rally in Madison Square Garden.

Project 2025: The plan is homophobic and transphobic after outlining its belief that the government should “affirm that children need and deserve both the love and care of a mother and the play and protection of a father”.

He would also like to dismantle the Affordable Care Act’s protections against sex discrimination in health care.

Like Trump, the plan wants to reverse Biden’s Title IX rule that protects young students (especially queer students and girls) from discrimination in schools and eliminate LGBTQ+ workplace discrimination protections under Title VII. He also wants all educators and platforms to stop advocating or even discussing “transgender ideology.” The group said public educators and librarians who spread the concept of being transgender should be registered as sex offenders.

Also, like the Republican candidate, Project 2025 wants to impose incredibly strict restrictions on gender-affirming care, but has taken things a step further and even accused parents of trans children and doctors who perform surgeries of gender affirming that they participate in “child abuse”. and “mutilation”. If it were up to its architects, they would take Medicaid funding away from doctors who provide gender-affirming health care to trans teens.

The bill also wants to criminalize pornography — something that Trump, who is currently fighting dozens of sexual assault charges — certainly won’t go for.

They have different views on reproductive rights.

Trump’s plan: The country’s soon-to-be president has gone back and forth with his views on reproductive rights and women’s freedoms, but he’s been clear on one thing: He wants access to abortion left up to the states, rather than being sealed as a constitutionally protected right. And while he argues with great force to help the Supreme Court overthrow Roe v. Wade in 2022, he said he would not sign a law restricting women’s access to birth control.

Project 2025: The bill takes a much tougher approach to women’s reproductive rights, especially abortion and birth control, than Trump. The group not only wants to place incredibly strict restrictions on abortion and birth control, but apparently opposes any sex that isn’t meant to cause pregnancy. One post shared on XThe Heritage Foundation said allowing women easy and free access to birth control would “(reverse) the consequences of sex.” It read: “Conservatives must lead to restore sex to its true purpose and end recreational sex and the senseless use of birth control pills.”

She believes the next conservative president “has a moral responsibility to lead the nation in restoring a culture of living in America again.”
