Woman accused of stabbing mother to death emotionless during hearing

Nov. 8 — A Middletown woman accused of killing her mother remained emotionless during her court hearing Friday, even as detectives said Minnie Lewis, 72, was stabbed 16 times .

Lewis was stabbed in the head, face and neck while sitting in an armchair at her home on 14th Avenue on the night of Oct. 30, according to Middletown police and court documents.

Mekeshia Lattimore, 44, was arrested by officers while still inside the home and charged with murder, and was lodged in the city jail in lieu of $1 million bail.

After Friday’s preliminary hearing, Visiting Judge David Tyack bound over the case to a Butler County grand jury for review by the prosecution.

Detective Patrick Glassburn testified that Lewis’ son heard screams, entered the room and found Lattimore standing over Lewis who was bleeding.

Two bloody knives were found in a bin and are being tested for DNA evidence.

Glassburn said Lattimore refused to talk to detectives when he was taken to the police station.

Lattimore has a criminal case pending in Warren County Common Pleas Court for grand theft of a motor vehicle from January. At one point in the case, Lattimore was declared incompetent to stand trial due to mental health issues by Warren County Common Pleas Judge Don Oda III, but was reinstated and pleaded not guilty to the charge last month, according to records the court.
