Taylor Farms responds after E. coli outbreak that killed at least one in Colorado

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Many people in Colorado and across the country have become ill following an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders.

Taylor Farms, a supplier to McDonald’s, recently recalled its yellow onions. KKTV 11 News’ Adam Atchison reached out to Taylor Farms for their response amid the outbreak.

On Friday, Taylor Farms’ Rachel Molatore responded:

“As a family business, we pride ourselves on providing people with safe and healthy fresh food every day. We are saddened to see the illness and the individuals and families affected from the current outbreak of E. coli O157:H7. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected and their families. Our priority remains the health and safety of our consumers. We have issued a precautionary recall of yellow onions from our Taylor Farms Colorado facility that were sent to select food customers. We continue to work with the CDC and FDA that are investigating the source of the outbreak. All Taylor Farms products on the market today are safe to eat.”

The CDC said Friday that 26 new illnesses were reported as of Tuesday, bringing the total to 75. One death was reported in Mesa County, Colorado, related to the outbreak.

A Colorado man has filed a lawsuit following the outbreak.

The CDC also said that due to the precautions taken by McDonald’s and Taylor Farms, they believe the ongoing risk to the public is “very low.”
