Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam shared some facts to establish that the caretaker government is not “NGO-dominated” as described by some people on social media.

In a post shared from his verified Facebook account on Friday (Nov 8), Alam said only four councilors had switched to NGOs.

“There has been a persistent campaign on social media, including by prominent commentators, describing the interim government as dominated by NGOs,” he said.

Alam said he was propagating the idea that the Advisory Board chaired by Professor Muhammad Yunus was full of non-governmental organization (NGO) people.

Official records of the 21-member council of advisers show that only four advisers have moved to NGOs, including two who are top lawyers, he said.

At least nine are retired government employees, including five former bureaucrats, two diplomats and two senior military officers, Alam said in his Facebook post.

Among the others, one is a former attorney general, one is a brave Freedom Fighter, two are student leaders, four are academics and writers, and two are among the pioneers of microcredit and social business, the press secretary said.
