LVMPD Sergeant’s entire team reported his misconduct

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The head of the police union talks to FOX5 about the arrest of one of their own for questionable policing. Sergeant Kevin Menon, who was in charge of a team working on the Strip, is accused of preparing people to be searched and detained.

According to Steve Grammas, president of the Las Vegas Police Protective Association, it was Sgt. Menon’s entire team who came to them to report the wrongdoing.

“You should be disturbed; police officers should not act the way Sgt. Menon played,” claimed Grammas.

Grammas was stunned by the allegations against Sgt. Menon whom he calls a “black overseer”.

“I was a bit incredulous. I wanted to see if for myself,” Grammas revealed about learning of the allegations against Sgt. Menon.

Videos released to a grand jury and obtained by FOX5 show several disturbing incidents of men being detained under apparently false pretenses on the Strip.

“I was amazed that in this day and age of law enforcement, someone would have the nerve to make up incidents with citizens,” Grammas said.

Text messages show premeditation. Menon plans to shoulder-check people passing by or otherwise engage them with other officers under his command, then dives in to question them.

“We know every profession has those bad apples, right? Lawyers, doctors, judges, police officers, but what you do when you find them is the measure of who you are as an agency,” Grammas said.

It was Menon’s team that reported it.

“It was the whole team, we all met at the substation. Once they all got together, talked about things they were worried about, and found out that it wasn’t isolated to themselves and that they had someone else going through the same thoughts and concerns, then they said, “hey, we need to call. the union,” Grams recounted.

“Fortunately, we have some starters. I have 26 years here, so we started guiding them properly, so it was a tough thing for those young officers to put themselves in that position. Much respect to them for having the courage to present it,” added Grammas.

Grammas said he told Menon’s team that they would be thrust into the limelight by reporting him. They said he had to stand up and do what was right.

Grandma says if you think you’ve been unfairly targeted to come forward and report it.

Last week, FOX5 reached out to Metro to ask if other officers working with Sgt. Menon faced discipline or charges. Metro tells FOX5, “this is an ongoing investigation.”

Menon is now out on bail and on charges related to the false arrests, as well as a separate case of possession of child pornography.
