Motorcyclist seriously injured after being thrown from bike during crash on I-70

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – A motorcycle rider suffered life-threatening injuries after being thrown from his bike during a rear-end collision along I-70 in Kansas City.

The Kansas Highway Patrol indicates that around 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, emergency crews were called to the area of I-70 westbound and 18th St. in Kansas City with reports of a two-vehicle collision.

When first responders arrived, they said they found Damon Neal, 20, of Harrisonville, Missouri, speeding down the highway on his 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Investigators noted that Neal came up behind a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Alfredo Arteaga Delgado, 36, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, which he attempted to pass.

However, Troopers said Neal’s motorcycle collided with the bed of the pickup, which caused the pickup to slide off the roadway to the left and hit the inside wall of the barrier. Neal was thrown from his bike during the crash.

First responders indicated that Neal, who was wearing a helmet at the time, was taken to University of Kansas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Arteaga Delgado, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered suspected minor injuries but was not transported to an area hospital.
