Norfolk ranks fifth in the Digital Cities Survey

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVE) — The city of Norfolk placed in the top 10 cities of its size in the Center for Digital Governance’s annual survey of Digital Cities again this year, it said in a statement.

Norfolk ranked fifth among cities with populations between 125,000 and 249,999.

The 24th the annual survey assesses the use of technology in cities to improve digital services.

Norfolk’s ranking “included a focus on fostering cross-departmental collaboration, closing the digital divide and increasing citizen engagement,” it said in a statement.

Additional initiatives contributing to Norfolk’s ranking:

  • Recent modernization of the E-911 Center, establishment of a Real-Time Crime Center to strengthen public safety efforts.

  • The commitment to emerging technologies is evident in the city’s creation of a comprehensive AI initiative, which created an AI task force in 2023 to promote the ethical and transparent use of AI.
