Emergency services were called to Kingsley Road, Maidstone, after a tree caught fire from the blaze

Emergency services were called to a residential street after a fire caused a tree to catch fire.

The fire at a house along Kingsley Road in Maidstone could be seen around town.

The incident took place around 16.20 on November 5.

Two fire engines were dispatched to the road and crews used jets to extinguish the flames which had spread to a nearby shed and fence panels.

The cause is believed to be accidental.

It is suspected that a campfire lost control and quickly spread to the tree.

At around 5pm, emergency services left and reported no injuries from the incident.

Thick, dark smoke could be seen from as far as Asda Living on the riverside in St Peter’s Street, which is about a mile away.

A nearby resident said: “It was so lucky the fire brigade came within minutes. I hope everyone is well.

“To be honest, it was really scary to see the fire on top of the houses.”

In recent days, families across the county have been celebrating Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Bonfire Night.

Kent Fire and Rescue previously posted a warning on their Facebook page in the run up to the event.

It read: “Have fun this bonfire night, but please be safe.

“We recommend going to a professional bonfire and fireworks event rather than lighting your own in the back garden.

“But if you choose to have a display at home, please be responsible and keep safety in mind.

“Remember to keep them away from trees, property and stay well back.”

Police have been contacted for more information.
